I have never considered my self an "expert" at anything. I do have personal experience with Kundalini and I do enjoy assisting others inside the process of awakening to it. Many people have their own ideas about what it is. Many faiths and spiritual institutions, denounce its knowledge and release into the populations. Some Swamis and priests or folks who call themself "Adepts" will advise against its awakening or activation, due to the very strong results.
Kundalini has the real ability of turning ones own existence into a tangible spiritual experience unlike any attempt the mind can produce. I will give you my understanding of it. It is in you, all of you, now at this moment. Not much on the internet is good regarding it but some is.
Kundalini is a Sanskrit word meaning "coiled up." This is referring to an energy that lies dormant in most people at the base of the spine. There are many other names for this energy from almost every culture on earth. "Greater Kan and Li" from China, "Holy Fire" from the Christian Mystics, "Loong" of the Tibetans, "Dumo fire" of the Buddhists.
The ancient Yoga practitioners kept a concise and detailed map of the symptomology of the Kundalini as it was awakened and followed its course through the body, essentially mapping the routes it took as it activated the centers and perimeters of the body. As we in the west have heard of it mostly from this source "Kundalini" is how I will address it here.
Kundalini with its rapid fireworks, sensational displays of light and colors brilliant as the sun, audio experiences ranging from bees to the tinkling of bells, smells of roses, cherry blossoms, and incense. Tactile symptoms ranging from strong internal hurricanes to vibrations of minute energies racing through the skin and scalp is more than any other experience associated with the beginnings of divine ascension within the body.
Some of the symptoms are very close to what the OOBE symptoms are.
Kundalini is a natural part of being human. It is an aspect of the human being that works like an electrical capacitor to a small degree. When a certain amount of energy or a condition warrants its release into the body an extreme transformation ensues. Very powerful energy - that isn't electrical - will release into the body. This can be triggered by an accident to the tailbone or by extreme meditation or extreme prayer or by severe emotional duress. Or by practices intended for its release, or by a person who has it already flowing strongly with in. It also can be understood as an experience some people will have just by virtue of how they "are." A pre-conditioned experience for them in life.
This is a very brief explanation but for the purpose of a short intro this should do. - blessings - chrism
